Save 25% on your food bill and add 10 years to your life with FOODcents!

FOODcents is a Department of Health (DoH) program promoting cost-effective, healthy eating. At these workshops participants learn that allocating their food budget to achieve a balanced diet doesn’t cost more; it actually costs less.

LiveSmart is an accredited FOODcents Advisor, and possibly the most experienced, having presented FOODcents sessions to over 4000 people, including interstate and internationally. We’re also Trainers of FOODcents Advisors on behalf of DoH, and have trained more than 500 Advisors, as well as contributing to the most recent revision of the FOODcents training manual and resources. At the request of DoH we have done a FOODcents radio interview and 2 TV segments, one of which won a media award.

Personal Mentoring

On behalf of DoH, and using FOODcents principles, LiveSmart mentored a lady who was on an extremely tight food budget and who thought she was doing everything possible to economise on food. A year after the mentoring she appeared on Channel 7s Today Tonight program with LiveSmart partner, Margot Marshall and announced she had saved $2000 on food that year (while spending twice as much on fruit and vegetables!) and “spoilt the kids rotten” at Christmas. She was also pleased that she had lost some weight. We can help you, too.

FOODcents adviser training

LiveSmart is authorised by the Department of Health (WA) to conduct ‘Train the Trainer’ FOODcents workshops, having trained more than 500 FOODcents Advisers, including dietitians, nutrition and health promotion undergraduates, teachers, Department of Justice chefs and education officers, welfare agency staff and others wishing to be FOODcents advisers. It isn’t necessary to have a nutrition background to be a FOODcents Adviser, since the focus is on money. In fact, the FOODcents slogan is

‘Don’t tell them it’s healthy; tell them it’s cheap!’
